Montemar is a west-facing Atlantic villa set quietly above the ocean, just five minutes from Zambujeira do Mar on Portugal’s wild and unspoiled Costa Vicentina. Here, in the Southwest Alentejo, the days still move with the wind, and the house was built to belong to the landscape rather than dominate it.

Originally built in 1974, the villa carries the softened geometry of Moroccan-inspired architecture: a single floor, sheltered terraces, a rooftop open to the sky, and the inward calm of a riad. After years of neglect, Montemar was rediscovered by a Portuguese family and carefully restored by Atelier Difusor de Arquitectura, preserving its original exterior character while returning the villa to its quiet grace. It remains a house of rare proportion, designed around the way it faces west, as if built for the sunset.

Today, Montemar is an Atlantic retreat for long stays and slow gatherings. Mornings begin with the sound of the coast. Afternoons unfold around the infinity pool and gardens. Evenings gather naturally around fire, indoors or beside the open-air grill as the sky darkens over the sea. It is a luxury villa for families, friends and discreet celebrations, for those who prefer space to spectacle and the luxury of being close to the ocean without saying very much about it.
